Description

This agreement has been developed to help organisations manage their fleets more effectively by improving safety and efficiency through the use of telematics technology. Telematics enable fleet managers to monitor things like fuel consumption, vehicle tracking and driver behaviour. This data can then be used to identify ways to make significant cost reductions based on the whole life cost of vehicles.

 

The agreement was developed in conjunction with police, ambulance, local government and central government customers and features a range of suppliers, all of which are small and medium sized businesses.

 

Benefits

The benefits of telematics for public sector organisations can be significant:

 

  • vehicle tracking supports the management of risk, driver safety (including two-way communication), work planning and vehicle usage
  • potential reduction of insurance premiums
  • better understanding of driver behaviour will help improve safety by identifying driver training needs
  • reduction in emissions through effective driver behaviour management, fuel consumption efficiency and future vehicle selection
  • aids whole life cost analysis and management by tracking servicing, maintenance and repair costs on vehicles
  • for vehicles which are in private user schemes, telematics can help distinguish between operational and private use to help with expenses and HMRC tax returns
  • supports duty of care and regulatory compliance, for example, tracking drivers who drive for long periods of time

Through the realisation of these benefits we expect public sector organisations to be able to save £3 for every £1 spent.

Access

You have the option to either direct award or run a further competition. The order form and call-off terms (schedule 4) provide further details.

 

If you need to run a further competition it must meet the following criteria:

Savings

 The savings methodology is based on the efficiencies and reduction in expenditure achieved in your fleet budget through things like:

  1. reduction in fuel consumption
  2. maximising vehicle usage
  3. reduction in accidents
  4. reduction in insurance premiums

Based upon the data provided from fleets who are already using vehicle telematics we expect customers to be able to save £3 for every £1 invested.

Background

An important part of  mature fleet management is the collection and analysis of vehicle telematics data to reduce fleet costs, support employers’ duty of care obligations, increase productivity, improve vehicle security, manage legislative compliance and reduce carbon footprints. Vehicle telematics also supports the whole life cost management of vehicles by providing live, operational data.

With this in mind the fleet team developed this agreement with input from key stakeholders including police, ambulance, local government and central government, to complement the range of fleet agreements we offer which include vehicle purchase, lease, conversion and tyres.
